According to naturopath Peter J. D’Adamo, the Blood Type Diet will help you be healthier and slim down because he considers that the food we consume chemically reacts with our blood type.
So take a look at what is recommended for every blood type:
Type O blood: A high-protein diet heavy on lean meat, poultry, fish, and vegetables, and light on grains, beans, and dairy. Different supplements are recommended for preventing stomach issues.
Type A blood: A meat-free diet based on fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes, and whole grains — ideally, organic and fresh.
Type B blood: Avoid corn, wheat, buckwheat, lentils, tomatoes, peanuts, and sesame seeds. Chicken is also problematic. He encourages eating green vegetables, eggs, certain meats, and low-fat dairy.
Type AB blood: Foods to focus on include tofu, seafood, dairy, and green vegetables. People with type AB blood tend to have low stomach acid. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoked or cured meats.
So, depending on which blood type you are you may need to make some changes and restriction in your diet regime because for example if you really like consuming potatoes and meat and you are type A then this diet is mostly vegetarian which will not make you that happy.
Is it efficient?
According to one study it is, but the improvement showed to everyone involved not just the one with type A blood. According to another review in 2013, there was no evidence that it is really beneficial.
However, eating according to your blood type will also help you lose weight for sure.
How does it work with other conditions?
Let’s say you have chronic diabetes, and according to one type of blood you should eat high protein, and then according to another you should avoid chicken and dairy products, so this may cause conflict.
Also, this Blood Type Diet does not address other issues like high blood pressure, heart diseases, or high cholesterol levels.
More importantly, you should do some exercises if you want to lose some weight at least 2 times per week. Exercise will speed up your metabolism and burn some extra calories.
This diet makes you avoid consuming simple carbs and processed food so this is helpful for losing weight but has nothing to do with the blood type.
Furthermore, there is no proof that this diet is helpful against indigestion or that it provides you with more energy. You will prepare your own meals however you have a limited choice and for some, it may be expensive because the recommendations are all organics.
So, if you want to try this remember: the science is not supporting the restriction according to blood type; it is supporting the traditional healthy eating for losing weight.
